Arianna De Luca | The Pop Artist of Ceramics

About Arianna De Luca

Arianna De Luca creates ceramics that embody the energy of the sun and the sounds of the sea, drawing inspiration from these natural elements. Her ceramic pieces beautifully express her Abruzzese heritage (a charming region in central Italy) and reflect Mediterranean landscapes and atmospheres. Arianna’s ceramics demonstrate how traditional forms can be reinterpreted through a contemporary pop lens.

Italian Beaches in the 60s and 70s

The objects in the Riviera (in show at the EditNapoli fair), feature vibrant color combinations reminiscent of the lively hues found on Italian beaches during the 60s and 70s, a time when everything was bold and nothing went unnoticed. This collection serves as a poetic tribute to the Adriatic coast, evoking its faded charm. Arianna’s personal website highlights her surreal marine ecosystem, including the Anemone centerpiece, the Medusa vase, the Corallo candle holder, as well as the Poseidonia and Anemone mirrors, and the Ostrica ashtray, all part of the Riviera collection.

The Carousel of Memories

Arianna has also ventured into creating ceramic objects designed for enjoying ice cream. The Carosello collection takes us back to childhood summers, recalling the joy of inviting friends over to share ice cream and moments of leisure. This set features a single enameled ceramic piece designed as a centerpiece that holds the cones and ceramic cups inside. The collection is completed by six teaspoons and a larger serving spoon.

Traditions Revived in a Collection

The basin, the ampoule, and the old pots are elements of a series of objects that have become obsolete in modern homes. However, Arianna regards them as crucial links to Abruzzo’s traditions that should not be forgotten. Her Folcloristica collection reinvents these items by combining pastel shades with circular elements typical of her ceramic artistry.

A Tribute to Nomadic Culture

Also the Bonanza collection explores the themes of travel and migration. This trio of objects—the Diamante vase, the Prezioso candle holder, and the Oro vase— deliberately enhance oversized shapes and clean lines. The pieces share sequences of bold circles in golden yellow, evoking the sparkle of gypsy rings.

Reminiscences of Picasso

Arianna’s early work already captivated enthusiasts, but her latest creations continue to evoke amazement and curiosity among her followers. The Uccellacci collection marks her first attempt to explore ceramics filled with decorative motifs and traditional techniques. The three vases in this collection strike a harmonious balance between the bizarre and the elegant, drawing inspiration from the classic Galletti di Vietri and Pablo Picasso’s rooster drawings, culminating in a personal and almost futurist interpretation by the designer.
