Both a photographer and a musician (co-founder of the band Ladytron), this English artist, Reuben Wu, originally from Liverpool, offers us images of great beauty.
In his visual work, Wu is driven not just by the urge to create imagery, but by a desire to explore new places as if they were unknown territory, constantly open to serendipity and with an eye for the unnoticed and the hidden.
Photographs, like music, can create an echo of a time and a place. To Reuben, his images are more than pictures. They are fragments of memory and imagination.
I look for details which make a landscape more interesting. I don’t really focus on exactly what these things are, you know, most of the time I find these things, and I don’t know what they are, so while I’m photographing them, I have an idea of what they could be. It’s kind of fun, it’s an exercise in imagination, fiction, you know. And obviously, I find out later what they’re for, and it’s still just as interesting! I like to entertain these ideas of possible parallel universes, which…you know.
