LUìS NASCIMENTO’S BLOWN GLASS SCULPTURAL OBJECTS

Luís Nascimento is a multidisciplinary designer, whose work flows from product or graphic design to art direction and attempts to give form to meaning and arouse both emotion and curiosity.
He believes that a project’s well understanding is essential as the premise to good design, which is achieved through a constant research and dialogue with his partners, building engaging experiences and developing collaboration with creative individuals, structures and clients with different backgrounds.

Through his work, Luís Nascimento strives to seize and to reinterpret traditional savoir-faire, either handcrafted or industrial. His inspiration takes root in arts and crafts, with the certitude there is no substitute to a talented craftsman when it comes to delivering quality.

Around the Corner is a set of pieces which result from a glass blowing workshop which took place at Cencal da Marinha Grande (a professional training centre dedicated to the ceramics industry), coordinated by Joana Silva and supervised by Claudio Duarte and Pedro Alves.

Luis goal was to explore the distortion of the material thank to the pressure of a corner put in a specific position. The result is a vertical ridge in an organic form generated by blowing the glass.
Then, bases were designed in brass in order to highlight the glass deformation creating a perfect bond between the organic glass forms with strict geometry brass edge. The balance point between the glass part on the metal base create a sense of levitation and lightness of the material.
