Lisa Gelli is an Italian Illustrator, born in Empoli in 1983. She graduated in Graphic Design and Fashion Photography (University of Florence, 2007) but it took her three years of working in those fields to feel the urge of new languages of expression. This way she found out how the technique of illustration could feed her needs, as it’s a world in which words and images may coexist.
Early after that, in 2010 she was soon selected for the Master Programme in Illustration “Ars in Fabula”, and since then she has been often shortlisted for illustration prizes, such as Premio Skiaffino and the 10th Concurso Internacional de Cartelismo Publicitario Francisco Mantecòn (Spain). She has participated in various exhibitions and collectives and has collaborated between theatre, drawing and writing while carrying her research in illustration and publishing by editing both illustration and text for several book projects. It was 2014 when she won the Picnic! Festival.
She is currently working as graphic designer for a big toy company while freelancing as a visual designer.
She is also part of the illustration collective Le Vanvere, and since 2014 she co-directs Ratatà, the festival of comics, illustration and self-publishing in Macerata, Italy.
