Lara Quatrini defines herself as shy and dreamy, yet in constant evolution. As for her dolls, which are the cyclic characters of most of her works. As a little child, she was quite scared by dolls in general, as for their still and frightening eyes, with no expressions and unnatural poses. At the same time, she felt fascinated and is from then that she started involving them into her visual approach. She always adored puppets and moving characters, so she chose to handmade and build her dolls by herself. During the process of the construction she finds herself dealing with two challenges: to face her childhood fears and to engage with the complexity that planning and creating a puppet involves. It’s difficult to define these dolls under one only practice: they are not just sculptures, neither only illustrations. They are creations, characters, her personal interpretation of what a feminine creature is, with any brainwashing from contemporary feminine beauty standards nor stereotypes.

Lara Quatrini is also very talented as a freehand illustrator, as we may notice by her posters (ex.Poster Bucktown Art Fest) and other drawings.

Recently she was highly featured and recognized at the Ratatà Festival, a creative event held in Macerata (Italy), featuring the illustrations and editorial works by international emerging artists.
