Mikel Berradre (b. 1985) was born in the Basque Country (north of Spain) and is currently living in Osaka (Japan).
He produces experimental work with photography and usually shoots with a point and shoot analog camera or with a mobile phone.
He initially had an on and off relationship with photography, but as soon as he moved to Japan he decided to get serious about it.
“Memories on Rice Paper” (2017) is a dream world related project, a world that has always fascinated and scared him at the same time. He asserts that a dream is inevitably related to a memory, and through this project, he aims to study what exactly these memories inside the dream-like universe are made of. He finds fascination in the capability of the human mind to create new memories out of nothing but still related to a paradox as once we wake up we will still remember them. Although we do remember them they are still considered as false memories, and from here the creation of memories on rice paper, as this medium represents the fragile and futile existence of these blurred memories.
